Academic Success

“I need to make sure I get a good sleep tonight… just be kind to myself… PhDs are mammoth! This is the pointy end of it… stay focuseddddd and head down.”

This message came from one of my clients in a recent accountability check-in. She’s in the final, intense stretch of completing her PhD.  We’ve worked together over the past year. She’s created the structure she needs. She’s shown up for herself, done the hard, unglamorous work, and is learning to meet herself with compassion.

This is exactly what we’ve been working toward together. And it hasn’t been an easy road!

Writing a PhD thesis is a monumental task for anyone, but for those with ADHD, it can be especially challenging because it taxes all the executive functions like attention, planning, organization, time management, and task initiation – which are critical for managing the long, rigorous process of writing a thesis.

She’s still waiting for the official “win” once her thesis is submitted and approved – but from where I stand, she’s already an incredible winner.

Not because of the title or the paper.
But because of the person she’s become in the process.
She has so much to be proud of.
